Tennessee expands medical cannabis commission membership

Beginning July 1, 2026, Tennessee’s Medical Cannabis Commission grows from nine members to ten. The new rules apply to appointments made on or after that date. The governor must appoint four members: a qualifying patient or caregiver, a medical cannabis expert, another person meeting either qualification, and a substance abuse prevention specialist. A patient must document a qualifying medical condition with a valid letter of attestation confirming the diagnosis. A caregiver can care for a qualifying patient or have cared for one who has died. The expert must know about growing, processing, shipping, distributing, or prescribing cannabis for medical use. The prevention specialist cannot vote. These changes do not themselves change household eligibility or access to medical cannabis.
