Poverty protections for parents and guardians
Tennessee courts cannot end a parent's or guardian's parental rights based only on poverty. Courts also cannot find child neglect based only on a parent's or guardian's poverty. Other legal grounds for ending parental rights or finding neglect remain unchanged. These protections took effect July 1, 2025.
