Four weeks off for organ donor workers
Effective upon becoming law, Tennessee requires covered state and private employers to provide four weeks off for living organ donation recovery. Eligible workers must have at least 12 consecutive months of full-time employment. Donation means giving all or part of an organ while living. Some state board and commission employees are excluded. State workers keep their existing leave rights, and this absence counts as full-time work when calculating service anniversaries. Workers who learn their surgery date fewer than 30 days ahead must give notice as soon as reasonably possible. The law does not require paid leave or provide wage replacement.
New health and insurance information for donors
Tennessee's Department of Health must post living organ donation information on its website by July 1, 2026. The material must explain benefits, risks, and possible effects on a donor's access to insurance. The department must consult with the Department of Commerce and Insurance. This requirement does not change insurance coverage or who qualifies.
