Custody cases prioritize child's best interest, parental involvement

Beginning July 1, 2026, Tennessee courts in custody and parenting-time cases must make the child’s best interest always paramount and consider all relevant factors. The law adds a factor: whether the parenting schedule gives each parent meaningful chances to take part in the child’s life, without any presumption about how much time. It also updates legal references so judges use the full, updated list of factors in the statute.
