A corporation that pays for messages that clearly support or oppose a named candidate or elected official is treated like a political campaign committee. This applies only when the spending is not done with the candidate’s or official’s consent, help, request, or through their agents or committees. The company must follow campaign finance reporting rules and disclose that spending. The change is now in effect.
