High school and college paths into nursing

Beginning July 1, 2025, public colleges under the Tennessee Board of Regents expand nursing pathways. They must let students enroll in practical nursing if the student has a high school diploma or equivalent, meets the program’s admission rules, and is admitted. They may offer dual enrollment in pre-practical and practical nursing to high schoolers in 10th grade or higher who meet dual-enrollment rules and are admitted. After you finish a practical nursing program, you can take the NCLEX-PN licensure exam. The Department of Health can set rules under the state’s rulemaking law.
