Beginning July 1, 2025, the Department of Correction pays $85 per month to employees who care for a retired department canine. The dog must have served the department and be retired to your custody; you may be an active or retired employee. You must use the money only for the dog's medical care and keep records of all treatment. By June 1 each year, send the dog's medical records for the fiscal year ending June 30 to the department. If the dog dies, you must notify the department within 30 days, and payments stop when they get your notice. The $85 payment is extra and does not reduce your salary, retirement, disability, or other pay.
