Clearer death certificate rules for families

The law updates how death certificates are signed. An attending doctor can sign if they agreed in writing, and that paper must be at the place of death. The doctor no longer has to be there in person to sign. When state law requires a death inquiry, the county medical examiner investigates and must complete and sign or file the death certificate. The law is in effect now.
