Beginning August 1, 2025, K–12 public and charter schools must include state diabetes information when they send parents notices about immunizations, infectious diseases, medications, or other school health issues. By July 31, 2025, the Department of Education and the Department of Health publish a free, downloadable guide online. The guide explains Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, risk factors, warning signs, screening, and the stages of Type 1. It also advises parents to talk with the child’s primary care provider and to plan treatment after diagnosis. Schools must use this state guide in their health communications.
