Subpoenas for educator discipline and school accountability

The state board chair, or a designee, can issue subpoenas. They can make people appear and give documents, videos, or audio they find relevant. This applies to investigations about revoking, suspending, refusing, or not renewing an educator’s license, even for matters outside Tennessee. It also applies to accountability hearings for school districts or public charter schools that receive a D or F grade. The law is in effect.
