Beginning July 1, 2025, sellers and distributors of tobacco, smoking hemp, vapor, and smokeless nicotine products must check ID if the person appears under 50. For mail orders, they must get a statement the addressee is 21 or older and tell them they cannot pass these items to anyone under 21. People who supervise a vending machine or sell tokens for one must also check ID under the same under-50 rule. The law raises the appearance trigger from 29 to 49, so ID checks happen more often.
