More pre-K seats when classes are not full

The law lets a school district fill open pre-K seats if, on the first enrollment deadline, at-risk applicants do not reach the class size limit. In-area children who are 4 years old on or before August 15 can enroll. In-area 3-year-olds can enroll if, by August 15, they were in TEIS, were identified as educationally at-risk under IDEA, or their family qualifies for free or reduced-price lunch. A child who lives outside the district can enroll if the child is 4 by August 15 and a parent works for the district.

Tuition for employees' out-of-district pre-K kids

If your 4-year-old lives outside the district and gets a pre-K seat because you work for the district, the district may charge tuition and fees. The charge cannot be more than the district’s actual cost to enroll and teach your child. The law also makes clear this exception is allowed despite other tuition limits.
