Consumers gain protection from false legal claims
Beginning April 11, 2025, Tennessee law bans false claims about a consumer’s involvement in a legal case to induce payment. This includes falsely saying or implying the consumer is part of a civil lawsuit or a defendant in a criminal case. The ban covers payments for related services, costs, fines, penalties, or other charges. It applies to acts occurring on or after that date, using existing consumer-protection enforcement without adding separate penalties.
