Faster paycheck deadlines for Tennessee workers

Beginning July 1, 2026, Tennessee sets firm deadlines for private employers to pay wages. If your employer pays once a month, pay for work done before the 1st is due by the 5th of the next month. If you are paid by piecework or commission, that pay is due by the last day of the next month. When you leave or are fired, your final pay is due by the later of the next regular payday or 21 days after you leave. For piecework or commission, your final pay is due by the last day of the next month after you leave. Employers cannot use contracts or policies to avoid the final‑pay deadlines. These rules apply to wages earned on or after July 1, 2026.
