Stronger protections against severe livestock cruelty

Beginning July 1, 2026, Tennessee law updates what counts as aggravated cruelty to livestock. It covers starving a livestock animal to death. It also covers conduct listed in §39-14-217(c)(1)-(12) that causes serious bodily injury or death. Both forms must be intentional, done in a depraved and sadistic manner, and without a justifiable or lawful purpose. Exceptions in subsections (d) and (e) still apply.
