Beginning May 7, 2025, receiving a homeschool notice ends certain school liability. The local school board and the child’s school of enrollment are not liable for the child’s education or services. This rule does not itself require parents to buy services.
Beginning May 7, 2025, Utah replaces homeschool affidavits with a one-time notice. Parents withdrawing a school-age child to homeschool or choosing not to enroll must notify their district’s local school board. The notice may include a letter of intent. The board cannot require another notice if parents already notified it by May 7, 2025, including through an affidavit. The board must keep the notice and confirm receipt to the parent within 30 days.
