Searchable safety data for the public

Beginning May 6, 2026, state agencies must create a searchable public safety portal with information stripped of identifying details. The State Commission on Criminal and Juvenile Justice uses the portal as a central home for required reports. Reports cover attempted firearm purchases by restricted people, sexual assault kits, and sexual assaults. They also cover student housing crime, prosecutor complaints, multi-agency strike force activity, and parole board offender measures. The agencies must set rules for removing identifying details and for using and sharing data within the law’s limits.

Limits on safety commission records requests

Beginning May 6, 2026, the State Commission on Criminal and Juvenile Justice need not release records received for the portal. When someone requests those records, the Commission must identify the government entity that supplied them. This exception does not change the original entity’s public records duties.
