Beginning May 6, 2026, the attorney general and public safety run a joint strike force. Federal, state, and local officers may join. It targets organized retail theft, antitrust and IP crimes, gambling, metal theft, and resale of stolen goods. A Joint Organized Retail Crime Unit investigates and helps prosecute theft for profit. Each year by December 1, the force reports its work to lawmakers and sends catalytic converter theft and arrest counts to the state commission, if available.
The commission oversees a statewide public safety data portal. Beginning May 6, 2026, agencies must send required justice data to this portal. It uses standard formats, privacy‑safe access, and real‑time audit tools. The commission may hire contractors and set rules to run it. It serves as the official home for many datasets, like court, DUI, domestic violence, juvenile, and catalytic converter theft data. The commission must also report collected data to lawmakers by October 1, 2025.
