Penalties for interfering with rescue trackers

Beginning May 6, 2026, Utah makes it a Class B misdemeanor to destroy, damage, disable, remove, or tamper with rescue tracking equipment in a public place. It is also a crime to interact with the equipment knowing it will trigger a false emergency report to police. Tampering counts only if the action blocks the device from working properly. These devices alert law enforcement that someone needs emergency help and help officers find the person’s location.
