3 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 1 costs, 1 mixed.
If police change or disable your camera in an emergency or for officer safety, they must follow up. They must tell you within 24 hours after the emergency ends, the warrant is served, or the risk is resolved. Or they must get a court order as soon as they can after the situation ends. If a court refuses, they must tell you within 24 hours of that. These notice rules start May 6, 2026.
Cameras used to watch or take wildlife are excluded. The ban and notice rules do not apply to hunting or wildlife cameras. This exclusion begins May 6, 2026.
The law bars police from tampering with, changing the view of, or disabling a private camera on your property. They can act only if you give permission first, a court orders it, there is an emergency, or officer safety is at real risk. Beginning May 6, 2026, these limits apply to officers and anyone acting for them.
