New statewide resource plan takes effect

Beginning May 6, 2026, the state adopts a new statewide resource management plan dated May 6, 2026. It replaces the plan dated May 7, 2025. This plan is the controlling policy for agencies that manage state resources.

State monitors plan and reports yearly

Starting May 6, 2026, the office monitors how federal, state, and local governments follow the plan. This work happens as funding and staff allow. If changes are needed, the office tells the commission, explains why, and works with them to draft updates. The commission can ask for more details, and the office must reply quickly. Each year before August 31, the office reports on recommended changes and on plan implementation.

Legislature must approve any plan changes

Starting May 6, 2026, plan changes move through a formal approval process. The commission may recommend the Legislature approve or disapprove a change, or take no action. If it recommends approval, the commission prepares a bill for the next general session. No plan change takes effect until the Legislature approves it.
