Medical facilities can record military status

The law lets medical care facilities ask patients if they are service members, veterans, or family. Facilities can add this status to the patient’s medical record. They may treat these patients as a vulnerable group and follow the latest Joint Commission health equity standards. Service member community members include service members, veterans, spouses, children, and stepchildren. Each facility chooses whether to do this.
