Water safety lessons for elementary students

If you have a child in a Virginia public elementary school, they get water safety lessons in health class. The Board of Education must create and share water-safety teaching guidelines with every school board. This happens during the Board’s next regular update of the Health Education Standards and Curriculum Framework. Lessons cover water conditions, safe behavior near water, drowning and injury prevention, using flotation devices, and swimming where lifeguards are present.
