Defense Department told of military-family child abuse investigations

When an agency opens a child or unborn child abuse investigation, it must tell the appropriate Defense Department authorities within 24 hours if it knows or has reason to know a parent serves in the U.S. armed forces, a reserve unit, or the Wisconsin National Guard. The notice can only include the name and address of the child or expectant mother and that an investigation started. These notices, reports, and agency records are confidential. Only the people and agencies named in state law may see them.
