Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 1 costs, 0 mixed.

Less hour-tracking for exempt employees

Employers do not have to keep hour records for workers who are exempt under this law, including covered minor league players. The same applies to employees who are exempt from overtime under department rules and are not paid hourly. This reduces paperwork and compliance time for those employers. These workers will have fewer official hour records.

Minor leaguers exempt from state wage rules

Minor league baseball players with a contract and a collective bargaining agreement that sets pay and conditions are exempt from Wisconsin minimum wage and overtime rules. State rules that require 1.5 times pay for overtime do not apply to these players. Employers also do not have to keep department records of their hours or wages. This applies only when both the contract and the bargaining agreement meet those conditions.
