Wisconsin legal notices get new printing rules
Wisconsin legal notices must use a sans-serif font, rather than specifically Arial. A standard line uses 6-point type, 6-point line spacing with no extra space, and an 11-pica length. One inch equals 6 PostScript picas or 72 PostScript points. Larger sans-serif type up to 12 points is allowed, but rates must keep average payment per column area unchanged. Different line lengths are also allowed, with fees adjusted in proportion to the change. The Department of Administration reviews rate adjustments and certifies them on request. That certification counts as evidence that the adjustment is correct unless shown otherwise. The law also updates how legislative documents are prepared for publication. After passage, the originating chamber’s chief clerk promptly sends the document jacket to the Legislative Reference Bureau. This applies to bills, constitutional amendment resolutions, and other resolutions the chief clerks determine need final official copies. For bills, this happens before delivery to the governor for approval. The Bureau prepares the final official document and returns the jacket and required copies to the clerk. These include print-ready copies of proposed constitutional amendments and resolutions requiring newspaper publication. The Bureau corrects minor clerical errors during this preparation and related publication; those corrections do not count as alterations to the official copy.
