One training grant per Wisconsin driver
Wisconsin's Department of Workforce Development cannot award more than one commercial driver training grant for the same trainee. This cap applies across applicants, not just to repeat applications by the same provider. The law does not state a grant amount.
Broader driver training grants, stricter eligibility
Wisconsin commercial driver training grant applicants can now provide training themselves or pay a third party to train Wisconsin residents. Applicants must have at least one Wisconsin facility. The actual training provider must be on the federal Training Provider Registry, and training must meet federal entry-level standards under 49 CFR part 380, subparts F and G. Trainees must get their first Wisconsin commercial driver license after March 23, 2024. For applicants that are not training providers, trainees must instead get that license after the new rule takes effect.
