New rules for remote pharmacies
The law lets the Pharmacy Examining Board set rules for pharmacies that give medicine when no pharmacist is on-site. These are called remotely supervised pharmacies. Old detailed remote-dispensing rules are repealed. Board rules now control how these sites operate and can exempt them from some regular pharmacy requirements. Patients may see easier local access, with oversight set in those rules.
Different rules for managers at remote pharmacies
A pharmacy run only as a remotely supervised site is not treated as a community or institutional pharmacy. The managing pharmacist is still responsible for professional operations, but different rules apply to these sites. Owners and pharmacists at these sites must follow the board’s remote pharmacy rules.
