New financial literacy credit path for students
Wisconsin still requires at least 0.5 credit in personal financial literacy for high school graduation. Students now have another way to earn that credit. School boards must award 0.5 credit when students successfully complete an approved financial literacy program during the high school grades. The program must come from a financial institution through a branch located in a school. Eligible institutions include banks, savings banks, savings and loan associations, trust companies, and credit unions with state, territorial, or federal charters. The school board must determine that the program meets the graduation requirement. Required topics are financial mindset, education and employment, money management, saving and investing, credit and debt, and risk management and insurance.
