Financial literacy credit required to graduate
Wisconsin high school students must earn at least 0.5 credit in personal financial literacy to graduate. The course must cover financial mindset; education and employment; money management; saving and investing; credit and debt; and risk management and insurance. A school board can award the 0.5 credit for a program run by a financial institution through a branch located in a school. The student must complete it in the high school grades, and the board must decide it meets the state’s rules. Financial institutions include banks, savings banks, savings and loans, trust companies, and credit unions.
