Easier handicap placards for disabled residents

Starting July 1, 2025, more health providers can sign the letter for a handicap parking placard. Doctors, advanced practice nurses, physician assistants, physical and occupational therapists, podiatrists, and optometrists can certify you. The letter must say your walking ability is limited and the condition is expected to last at least 12 months. A person who regularly drives you can submit the letter, and the Department may issue one extra placard if you do not have special plates. When parked, hang the placard from the rearview mirror (or place it on the dashboard if no mirror). Temporary placards must show an expiration date visible from outside the car, set by the provider’s letter.
