§401 Definitions

Summary

It defines the main words used in the chapter. Board refers to the Merit Systems Protection Board. Covered employee means any employee who works for an employing office. Employee also includes job applicants and former employees. Employing office means parts of the Executive Office of the President, the Executive Residence at the White House, and the Vice President’s official residence. For some parts of the chapter the words change. For matters under section 411, “employing office” and “covered employee” use the meanings in section 411. For section 412, “covered employee” means those named in 412(a)(2)(B). For section 413, “covered employee” excludes interns and volunteers as in 413(a)(2). For section 416, “covered employee” means those named in 416(a)(2).
