Published Date: 4/28/2026

Notice

Summary

The Office of Child Support Enforcement is updating the optional Tribal Budget and Narrative Justification Template used by tribes to request child support funding. They’re making small fixes to the Excel version and dropping the Word version since no one uses it. Tribes should note that comments are due by May 28, 2026, and the updated form helps make budget submissions easier and more consistent.

Excel template updated for tribes

The Office of Child Support Enforcement updated the optional Tribal Budget and Narrative Justification Excel template by changing citations and hyperlinks from 45 CFR part 75 to 2 CFR part 200, editing sample budget examples to reflect 2 CFR part 200, and fixing formula errors. Tribes operating an approved tribal child support program may use the revised Excel template to prepare their annual budget and narrative estimates required under 45 CFR 309.130(b).

Word template discontinued

OCSE proposes to discontinue the Word version of the Tribal Budget and Narrative Justification Template because it is not used. Tribes may continue to submit required financial information using the Excel template or their own format.

Annual budget submission burden estimate

Tribes and tribal organizations administering a tribal child support program must submit the required financial forms no later than August 1 each year. OCSE estimates 63 respondents will each submit 1 response annually with an average burden of 16 hours per response, for a total annual burden of 1,008 hours.
