Senior citizen service districts use a property tax of up to 2 mills. The levy question goes on the ballot at the first general election held two to four years after voters approve the district, then every four years after that until it is defeated. If voters defeat the levy, it cannot return to the ballot for at least one year. Beginning July 1, 2025, these timing rules apply.
