Beginning July 1, 2025, city and town governments can, by ordinance, choose whether to order a boundary survey when lines are unclear or after annexation. If a survey is done, the boundaries must be marked with substantial monuments. The surveyor must give a report that describes the lines in metes and bounds and file field notes with the city or town clerk. The clerk must file certified copies of the report and notes with the county clerk. The description should use U.S. survey markers where they exist.
