3 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 0 costs, 2 mixed.
Starting July 1, 2025, for contracts signed on or after that date, any noncompete that stops a physician from practicing after leaving is void. Other lawful parts of the agreement still apply. A physician may share new contact details with any patient with a rare disorder the physician treated before leaving. Neither the physician nor the former employer is liable for damages from that contact or from later treating that patient.
Starting July 1, 2025, for contracts signed on or after that date, a noncompete that blocks you from getting paid for work is void. There are limited exceptions: when selling a business, to protect trade secrets, and for executives, managers, officers, and their professional staff. Contracts can still require you to repay relocation, education, or training costs, but only up to set caps: under 2 years of service up to 100%; 2 to under 3 years up to 66%; 3 to under 4 years up to 33%.
The law applies only to contracts entered into on or after July 1, 2025. Contracts signed before that date are not changed by this law.
