Volunteer firefighters, EMTs, and search-and-rescue members can enroll in the state employees' group health plan. You may enroll even if you are eligible only for Affordable Care Act marketplace coverage. You cannot enroll if you are eligible for any other government health program. These changes take effect immediately.
If you enroll, you must pay the full monthly premium to your fire, EMS, or search-and-rescue department. Your department may choose to pay part of your premium; if it does, your cost drops by that amount. Each year, you must submit proof that you are still a volunteer, signed by your supervisor. If you do not provide signed proof, you can lose coverage.
