Starting July 1, 2025, dealers and manufacturers of new trailers (not house trailers or semitrailers) are exempt from several listed dealer laws. One listed statute also no longer applies to manufacturers of those trailers. This reduces compliance steps for these businesses.
Starting July 1, 2025, dealer license applicants who plan to sell new trailers must file a “sales authorization” from the trailer maker or distributor when there is no franchise agreement. This applies only to trailers that are not house trailers or semitrailers. File the authorization before you start business and with your application each year. The law defines a “sales authorization” as the maker’s or distributor’s document that names the trailer make and allows you to sell it.
