Starting July 1, 2025, Wyoming treats more offenses as “serious” for commercial drivers, including texting or using a handheld phone while driving a commercial vehicle. Bad lane changes and driving without the right CDL or endorsements count too. You can beat a “not carrying license” ticket if you prove you had a valid CDL or permit on the citation date. An expunged teen suspension for alcohol or drug possession can still be used to disqualify you from commercial driving. If you are under 21 and held a CDL or permit, a BAC of 0.02% or more means at least a 1-year disqualification for a first conviction. If the state gets credible fraud info about your CDL, you get 30 days to retest; no response, no test, or failing the test means cancellation and a 1-year disqualification.
Starting July 1, 2025, the state may waive the CDL knowledge test, the skills test, or both. You must meet rule requirements that include U.S. DOT minimums. If you qualify, you save time and testing costs.
The transportation department must write rules to run these CDL changes. The rules explain test waivers, new violations, and disqualification steps.
