Starting July 1, 2025, appointed selling agents keep $1 for each qualifying snowmobile registration or nonresident user fee sold. Department employees who sell do not receive a commission.
Beginning July 1, 2025, the state sends fuel‑tax‑based money to a special account for snowmobile trails. The amount equals $28.75 for each paid registration plus reported commercial gallons multiplied by the current gasoline tax rate. The Department of State Parks and Cultural Resources spends this money to improve trails. Businesses that rent commercial snowmobiles must report their gasoline use.
Beginning July 1, 2025, resident registration fees rise. Private snowmobiles cost $50 per year, up from $35. Commercial snowmobiles cost $150 per year, up from $105. Nonresidents pay a $75 annual user fee unless exempt under subsection (f). You pay the new amount when you register or renew.
Beginning July 1, 2025, you can register an antique snowmobile. An antique is at least 20 years old and used for parades, shows, tours, or similar events. You apply to the department and get a certificate and a numbered decal. You pay a $25 fee at registration. Antiques are exempt from the 30‑day registration rule; the registration ends when ownership transfers.
