3 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 1 costs, 1 mixed.
The Game and Fish Commission can limit how many commercially guided fishing boats may launch into or use any river, lake, or part of a waterway. This protects fishing quality and aquatic resources. But if you launch from a city, town, county, or state ramp and guide clients to lands you or your immediate family own or lease, those limits do not apply. You must meet both parts to get the exception.
The law creates a seven-member advisory board for commercially guided fishing. At least one member is from each appointment district, and at least two are Wyoming-owned drift boat guide business owners. Members serve four-year terms and get travel and per diem like state employees, but no pay. The board advises the commission on the new rules.
Beginning January 1, 2026, guided fishing businesses must register each commercially guided boat and pay an annual fee. The Game and Fish Commission sets the fee and details by rule and may hold county meetings. The department gives two stickers per registration: one for the boat and one for the trailer. These rules apply to outfitters and professional guides who take paying clients; lending gear or a boat for personal, temporary use is not covered.
