Property tax break for veterans’ parents

Beginning July 1, 2025, surviving parents of a veteran can claim Wyoming’s property tax exemption when there is no surviving spouse. Divorced parents who live apart may each qualify. You must have lived in Wyoming for at least three years when you claim, and at the veteran’s death both the veteran and the parents were Wyoming residents. The exemption can cover property you own, a home held in a trust for you, or a property you are buying under a recorded contract for deed. File a sworn claim with the county assessor by the fourth Monday in May, and claim in only one county unless divorced parents live in different counties. The Department of Revenue will issue rules and forms to run the program, and some administrative sections take effect immediately under the state constitution.
