Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 1 costs, 0 mixed.

Direct farm meat sales after federal OK

Wyoming producers who raise cattle, sheep, pigs, or goats can sell meat they raised. The animals must be raised, slaughtered, processed, and sold in Wyoming. Slaughter can be on the farm or at a “custom slaughter facility” with no inspector. This definition takes effect July 1, 2025. Sales start only after the governor certifies federal law allows uninspected direct sales. After certification, producers may sell directly to informed Wyoming consumers, and the Agriculture Department may set rules.

Warnings and marketing limits on uninspected meat

Sellers must give a clear written warning at sale or on the label. It must say the meat was not inspected or regulated, that the buyer will not resell or donate it, and describe the seller’s health and processing standards. Sellers may not claim the state agriculture department approves or endorses the meat. These duties apply once sales are allowed after the governor’s certification.
