Communities must adopt NFIP floodplain measures

This requirement applies to the communities listed in the notice.

If you live, work, or own property in one of the listed communities in Alaska, California, Mississippi, or New York, the new or modified Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) and supporting Flood Insurance Study (FIS) reports take effect on January 8, 2027. The maps may show changes such as Base Flood Elevations (BFEs), Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA) boundaries, or regulatory floodways.

Owners encouraged to review new FIRMs/FIS reports

FEMA encourages lessees and owners of real property in the listed communities to review the new or revised Flood Insurance Rate Maps and Flood Insurance Study reports at the local Community Map Repository or online through the FEMA Map Service Center by January 8, 2027.
