Show full summary
- Veterans and families get a public record of patient-safety reports, incidents, alerts, and disclosures for every VA facility using the new electronic health record, making system-related harms and trends easier to track.
- VA leaders and facilities must disclose all EHRM expenses, including infrastructure changes and contractor or consultant payments. The law requires an initial report within 90 days and then updates every 30 days after each fiscal quarter.
- Congressional Veterans Affairs committees receive the metrics, the underlying data for each indicator, and notes on any metric changes. The statute also defines terms like “electronic health record system” and the Federal Electronic Health Record Modernization Office and ends reporting 90 days after the Secretary certifies full implementation.
