Funding keeps transplant and cord blood programs
The law authorizes $31.009 million each year for the C.W. Bill Young Cell Transplantation Program for FY 2022–2026. It also authorizes $23 million each year for the national cord blood inventory for FY 2022–2026. This funding helps patients who need marrow or cord blood transplants. It also supports cord blood banks and transplant centers.
More oversight and science reviews for transplants
The Secretary must meet with the program’s advisory council at least two times each year. The law requires a science review on adult stem cells and birthing tissues at least every two years. The second review must finish and send recommendations to Congress by June 30, 2025. The program goal now clearly prioritizes collecting high‑quality cord blood units.
NIH works with FDA on regenerative medicine
The law directs the NIH Director to keep consulting with NIH and FDA experts on regenerative medicine. It covers adult stem cells, autologous cells, tissue engineering, human cell and tissue products, gene therapies, and modified cells. This coordination starts upon enactment to help move safe therapies forward.
