Show full summary
  • Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde: The 84-acre Thompson Strip and any land purchased with settlement funds are ineligible for Class II or Class III gaming under the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act.
  • Federal and tribal gaming officials: The law uses IGRA's definitions of Class II and Class III gaming to set the disqualification, clarifying which activities are barred on those parcels.
  • Treaty and rights holders: The act expressly says it does not enlarge, confirm, adjudicate, affect, or modify any tribal treaty rights as defined under the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act.

Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 1 costs, 1 mixed.

Treaty rights unchanged by this law

The law does not enlarge, confirm, decide, affect, or change any tribal treaty right. It uses the definition of Indian Tribe in federal self-determination law. This protection is in effect now.

No casino gaming on settlement lands

The law bans Class II and Class III gaming on any land the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde got through a U.S.-approved land claim settlement. The ban also covers land bought with settlement funds. Class II and III have the meanings in federal gaming law. This takes effect now.

Grand Ronde parcel set to 84 acres

The law names the 84-acre Thompson Strip as the covered Grand Ronde parcel. It replaces a broader land reference in the Grand Ronde Reservation Act. This clarifies which land is covered and sets boundaries for that parcel. It applies now.
