118-hr-7213, Autism CARES Act of 2024
Expands autism research, services, and funding across the lifespan. This law reauthorizes and broadens NIH autism activities, strengthens interagency coordination and public input, and boosts access to communication tools and culturally appropriate services. - Families and caregivers gain stronger lifespan coverage, more culturally and linguistically appropriate information, and new focus on transitions from school to adult services and supports. - Researchers and clinical programs see a wider research scope that adds fields like psychiatry, developmental behavioral pediatrics, audiology, and gerontology, and Centers of Excellence can increase from five to seven. - States, Indian Tribes, Tribal organizations, localities, and territories can get training and technical assistance to use federal funds for evidence-based communication tools and services, and program authorizations are extended through September 30, 2029. Authorizes larger annual NIH autism program funding for FY2025–2029 — raising three program lines to $28.1 million, $56.3 million, and $306 million — and thus increases federal spending for those programs.

118-hr-82, Social Security Fairness Act of 2023
Repeals the Government Pension Offset and the Windfall Elimination Provision to restore Social Security benefits for many public‑sector retirees. It removes statutory cross‑references to those rules and directs the Social Security Administration to update benefit calculations and payments. - Public‑sector retirees with pensions from jobs not covered by Social Security will stop having their spousal or survivor benefits reduced. Many people who lost part of their Social Security because of these offsets can see higher monthly checks. - Workers whose own Social Security benefits were cut by the Windfall Elimination Provision will no longer face that penalty when their benefit is computed. That raises the primary insurance amount used to set their monthly benefit. - The Social Security Administration must adjust primary insurance amounts and monthly insurance benefits for months after December 2023, so changes take effect starting January 2024.
