Gold medal honors Shirley Chisholm
The law honors Shirley Chisholm with a Congressional Gold Medal. Treasury makes a gold medal with her image and name. The Speaker of the House and the Senate President pro tempore arrange a posthumous presentation. After the award, the medal goes to the Smithsonian for display and research. Congress encourages the Smithsonian to loan it for related events and places. The Mint may sell bronze duplicates at prices that cover costs like labor, materials, and overhead. Money from sales goes to the U.S. Mint Public Enterprise Fund, which also pays medal costs. Medals under this law count as national medals and numismatic items.
