Medicare cancer care planning benefit
If enacted, and you have Medicare Part B and are diagnosed with cancer, you would be able to get a written or electronic cancer care plan. A doctor, physician assistant, or nurse practitioner would prepare the plan using the Institute of Medicine care management components. You would be able to receive the plan at diagnosis, if treatment or condition changes, at the end of active treatment and start of survivorship care, or if cancer returns. The bill would add the service to the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule and, unless the Secretary changes it, pay it at the same rate as transitional care management (CPT 99496). The rule would apply to services furnished on or after the first day of the first calendar year that begins after enactment.
