HR10456119th Congress

Renewing the Dream Act

Sponsored By: Representative Raskin, Jamie [D-MD-8]

Introduced

Summary

Would replace the Lincoln Memorial plaque with a new plaque honoring Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech. The bill would direct the Secretary of the Interior to design, procure, and place the replacement in accordance with the Commemorative Works Act. The Secretary could accept private contributions to cover preparation and installation without a separate appropriation. Federal funds could be used to remove the existing plaque and to design, procure, and install the new plaque. The measure sets a framework that mixes private donations with available federal funding to complete the replacement under existing commemorative-works rules.
